How a replacement car key works
Most cars made in the last two decades use transponder keys. The key carries a chip that the car must recognize before the engine will start, so a replacement must be cut to fit the lock and programmed to the vehicle. We do this on site for many makes and models. Some vehicles, especially certain European and luxury brands, need dealer equipment, and we will tell you before you book if yours is one of them.
What to have ready
- Year, make and model of the vehicle
- The VIN, visible through the windshield on the driver's side
- Photo ID and proof of ownership, such as the registration or title
- Any remaining keys or fobs, even damaged ones
Arizona heat and car lockouts
Peoria summers make a car lockout more than an inconvenience. If a child, a vulnerable adult or a pet is locked inside a vehicle, call 911 first. For other lockouts, wait somewhere shaded and keep your phone on so the technician can reach you.

Why does a copied key open the door but not start the car?
